Keep a small reminder of Air L.A.'s regional airline story close at hand with this Double-Sided Keychain Charm. The Los Angeles-area carrier began scheduled service in May 1982 after charter beginnings, then expanded routes across California, Arizona and Nevada. Its later history included flights to Mexico and an Aeromexico codeshare that began in 1993. For aviation enthusiasts, airline-history collectors and admirers of brief but distinctive carriers, this charm offers an everyday nod to a company that ceased operations in 1995.
Air L.A. was a U.S. commuter airline headquartered in the Westchester area of Los Angeles, California, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Air L.A. Inc. Founded by Wayne Schoenfeld, Ken Dickey and Bill Wolf, it began as a charter airline in the late 1970s and started scheduled service in May 1982 with Piper Chieftain aircraft. Its early destinations included Blythe, Burbank, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. The network later expanded across California, Arizona and Nevada; by the late 1980s, the airline operated British Aerospace BAe Jetstream 31 commuter propjets. In November 1990, Air L.A. added service to Mexico through its acquisition of Air Resorts. In April 1993, it began a codeshare relationship with Aeromexico, initially on the Los Angeles–Tijuana route and later extending to other Mexican cities. The airline operated Fairchild Swearingen Metroliners in 1993 and acquired Conquest Airlines in 1995, as well as St. Paul-based Capitol Air in early 1995. Air L.A. discontinued its California operations in May 1995 and ceased all operations in September 1995.
