Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Air New England connected Boston and LaGuardia with towns and coastal destinations across New England during a period of rapid change in regional air travel. Incorporated in 1970, the airline expanded its network and aircraft before ending operations in 1981. This embroidered dad cap hat celebrates the carrier’s distinct place in that history, from its early Barnstable base to its broader regional reach. A considered pick for aviation enthusiasts, airline-name collectors, and fans of New England’s travel heritage.

Air New England, Inc. was incorporated in Massachusetts on September 25, 1970, and began flying on November 16. Initially based in Barnstable, it was described as a broader New England rebranding of Cape & Islands Flight Service, though the two remained separate corporations. Its early routes connected Boston and New York’s LaGuardia Airport with communities in Massachusetts and Maine. The airline grew quickly, carrying 90,000 passengers in 1971 and 320,000 in 1974, while surpassing Executive Airlines, which went out of business in December 1973. In 1974, the Civil Aeronautics Board certified Air New England to serve routes previously associated with Northeast Airlines, which had merged into Delta in 1972, and routes inherited by Allegheny Airlines through its 1972 merger with Mohawk Airlines. Certification brought access to larger aircraft, including FH-227s, but also oversight of routes with a history of financial losses. The airline expanded its network and fleet, yet relied heavily on government subsidies from 1975 onward. A proposed 1981 purchase by Wright Air Lines did not proceed. Air New England ceased operations on October 31, 1981, after citing financial losses, competition, reduced subsidies, expenses, and revenue effects from the air-traffic controllers’ strike.
