Air Pacific was a United States commuter airline based in California, operating regional flights wholly within the state. The company began in 1970 as Eureka Aero and adopted the Air Pacific name in 1979. Its operations connected California communities, with destinations that included Bakersfield, Chico, Los Angeles, Merced, Modesto, Oakland, Redding, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, South Lake Tahoe, and Stockton; not every destination was served at the same time. The airline used de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter and DHC-7 Dash 7 turboprops, aircraft capable of short takeoff and landing (STOL) operations. In 1980, Air Pacific merged with Gem State Airlines to form Golden Gate Airlines. Golden Gate Airlines merged with Swift Aire Lines in 1981, and service was discontinued shortly thereafter. This short corporate history links a California regional carrier to a sequence of company names and mergers, from its founding as Eureka Aero through its Air Pacific identity and successor airline.
