Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Add Airborne Express history to a round of golf with these golf balls, a distinctive pick for collectors and fans of American delivery brands. The company traces its beginnings to a San Francisco freight forwarder incorporated in 1947, then grew beyond forwarding as the industry changed and overnight package delivery expanded. Its changing corporate identity and rise as a major domestic express business make Airborne Express an engaging subject for logistics enthusiasts, business-history collectors, and golfers who enjoy a connection to the past.
Airborne Express grew from Airborne Flower Traffic, a San Francisco-based air freight forwarder incorporated in California on April 23, 1947. The business became Airborne Freight Corporation in 1965, the year it went public. In 1968, it merged with Seattle-based Pacific Air Freight to form a new Delaware-incorporated Airborne Freight Corporation. After U.S. air cargo deregulation in 1977, the company moved beyond freight forwarding toward overnight package delivery. It acquired Midwest Air Charter in 1980, including its Wilmington, Ohio hub, and renamed the airline Airborne Express. The company adopted Airborne Express as its trade name in 1985 and renamed its airline ABX Air in 1989. By 1990, it was one of three major domestic package express companies alongside Federal Express and UPS. In December 2000, a restructuring made Airborne, Inc. the holding company, with the former Airborne Freight Corporation renamed Airborne Express, Inc. DHL agreed to buy Airborne in 2003 for $1.05 billion; the transaction closed August 15. ABX Air was spun out to shareholders as part of the deal, and the airline remained in operation as of 2026.
