Product Details & Size Guide
Share a story of California flight with this AirCal kids tee. Air California began service in 1967 from Orange County Airport, carrying travelers to San Francisco and building an expanding network across the state. The airline later adopted the AirCal name and reached beyond California as air travel changed after deregulation. Its 1987 merger with American Airlines makes AirCal a memorable part of aviation history for young plane fans, curious families, and collectors alike.
Air California grew from a December 1965 discussion about connecting Orange County with San Francisco. Incorporated in 1966, it began service on January 16, 1967, from Orange County Airport, now John Wayne Airport, using Lockheed Electra aircraft. Its early California intrastate network expanded to include cities such as San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, San Diego, and Palm Springs. The airline later introduced jet service, including Boeing 737s, and benefited from a protected position at Orange County Airport. Ownership shifted in 1970 to Westgate-California Corporation, which entered bankruptcy in 1974. After federal airline deregulation in 1978, the carrier expanded beyond California, including service to Reno. In 1981, real estate developers William Lyon and George Argyros acquired it, and the airline adopted the AirCal name and a new identity. AirCal later added routes reaching Chicago, Seattle, Anchorage, and Vancouver. American Airlines agreed to buy the company in 1986; the purchase closed on May 1, 1987, and AirCal merged into American on July 1. In 2015, American added an AirCal-inspired heritage livery to a Boeing 737-800.
