GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take a long-running airline story along for the ride with this All American Aviation travel mug. The company began in 1937 with patents for an aircraft hook that collected airmail containers from suspended lines, then launched service from the Pittsburgh area in 1939. Its history continued through All American Airways and Allegheny Airlines, with later names marking new chapters in commercial aviation. For road trips, commutes, or aviation gatherings, this piece brings a conversation-starting link to pioneering mail service and the airline identities that grew from it.
Founded in 1937 by Lytle Schooler Adams, All American Aviation began as a patent-holding company, alongside its sister operating company, Tri-State Aviation. Adams had experimented with a system for picking up airmail from aircraft since 1927, developing patents that he brought into the company. Its early service used an aircraft-mounted hook to snag mail containers suspended from lines. The du Pont family acquired a majority interest, and Richard C. du Pont became president. Service began in 1939 on routes radiating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, across the Ohio River valley. Initially headquartered near Pittsburgh at Allegheny County Airport, the company moved its headquarters to Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, in 1949 while retaining its Pittsburgh hub and operations. That year, with the start of passenger service, it became All American Airways. On January 1, 1953, it took the name Allegheny Airlines; later transitions brought the names USAir on October 28, 1979, and US Airways on November 12, 1996. US Airways merged with American Airlines in 2013, and its brand was phased out by 2016 as aircraft, uniforms, and other assets were rebranded.
