Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a small reminder of aviation history close at hand with this All American Aviation square porcelain fridge magnet. Founded in 1937, the company grew from Lytle Schooler Adams’s airmail pickup experiments and patents, leading to service from Pittsburgh in 1939. Its aircraft hook gathered mail containers suspended from lines across routes in the Ohio River valley. The company later became All American Airways and Allegheny Airlines, part of a long succession of airline identities. This collectible celebrates its inventive origins and suits a home display or aviation-themed collection.
Founded in 1937 by Lytle Schooler Adams, All American Aviation began as a patent-holding company, alongside its sister operating company, Tri-State Aviation. Adams had experimented with a system for picking up airmail from aircraft since 1927, developing patents that he brought into the company. Its early service used an aircraft-mounted hook to snag mail containers suspended from lines. The du Pont family acquired a majority interest, and Richard C. du Pont became president. Service began in 1939 on routes radiating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, across the Ohio River valley. Initially headquartered near Pittsburgh at Allegheny County Airport, the company moved its headquarters to Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, in 1949 while retaining its Pittsburgh hub and operations. That year, with the start of passenger service, it became All American Airways. On January 1, 1953, it took the name Allegheny Airlines; later transitions brought the names USAir on October 28, 1979, and US Airways on November 12, 1996. US Airways merged with American Airlines in 2013, and its brand was phased out by 2016 as aircraft, uniforms, and other assets were rebranded.
