Product Details & Size Guide
Altair Airlines was established in Philadelphia in 1967, serving northeastern cities before expanding its ambitions along the East Coast. The company moved from commuter aircraft and turboprops to Fokker F28 and DC-9 jets called Starjets, then ceased operations in November 1982. This spiral notebook celebrates that brief arc of airline history and the Blue Eagle identity. It is a thoughtful choice for aviation enthusiasts, route-history researchers, and collectors who enjoy recording ideas alongside stories of regional flight.
Altair Airlines was established in Philadelphia in 1967 as a commuter carrier operating small piston twin aircraft. Its main shareholder that year was Tristram Colket, and the airline had 587 employees. A July 1969 timetable shows service connecting northeastern cities, with Philadelphia as its hub and headquarters. Altair later added Beechcraft 99 and Nord 262 turboprops. By the late 1970s, it was pursuing expanded scheduled service along the U.S. East Coast and introduced Fokker F28 Fellowship and McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 jets, which it called Starjets. The company retired turboprops as it shifted toward jet operations, but its income did not outpace the debt it incurred. In November 1982, after Gulf Oil Corporation demanded payment of more than one million dollars in jet fuel costs, Altair sought legal protection and filed for bankruptcy. It ceased operations that month with six Fokker F28 series 4000 aircraft and three DC-9-30s. Its final president was Henry P. Hill. Many employees found work with other airlines at Philadelphia International Airport.
