Amaranth disclosed major losses to investors on September 18, then transferred its energy portfolio to Citadel LLC and JPMorgan Chase. Its founder notified investors of a trading suspension on September 29, 2006; the fund hired Fortress Investment Group to liquidate assets on October 1.
