Add a distinctive airline story to your time on the course. America West Airlines began flying from Phoenix in 1983, expanded its network, and made Phoenix Sky Harbor its principal hub, with additional hubs in Las Vegas and Columbus. After bankruptcy and a 1994 reorganization, the airline entered a merger that brought its identity into US Airways. Its CACTUS callsign and former branding still draw interest from aviation enthusiasts. These golf balls celebrate a memorable chapter in airline history and the collectors who follow changing airline identities.

America West Airlines was established in February 1981 and began flying on August 1, 1983, from Phoenix, Arizona, with three leased Boeing 737s. Headquartered in Tempe, it grew quickly: by 1984 it served 23 cities, and Phoenix Sky Harbor became its principal hub. It added a Las Vegas hub in 1985–86 and a Columbus hub in 1993, while expanding service with Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Rapid growth, high operating costs, and rising fuel expenses led to bankruptcy in June 1991. The airline operated under bankruptcy protection until 1994, when a reorganization involving Mesa Airlines and Continental Airlines helped it resume growth. It introduced a new logo and livery, and later added online ticket purchasing. In 2005, America West entered a merger with US Airways, structured as a purchase of US Airways by America West Holdings but organized as a reverse merger. The combined airline adopted the US Airways name; from January 2006, America West flights and most airport signage carried that brand. Operating certificates merged in September 2007, while the combined airline retained America West's CACTUS callsign and AWE code. US Airways later merged with American Airlines in 2013, and the US Airways brand ended in 2015. Phoenix remained a hub for American Airlines.
