Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate the enduring story of Arrow Cargo with a heavy knit quarter-zip sweatshirt inspired by a company shaped by Miami aviation. Arrow Air began its 1981 relaunch there and went on to combine scheduled passenger service, charter flights, and cargo operations. A San Juan hub and the growing importance of freight helped define its changing identity. From corporate mergers to restructuring, Arrow’s history reflects the complex realities of airline operations. This piece is for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the people and stories behind air cargo.
Arrow Air began operations in Miami on May 26, 1981, as a charter airline backed by Batchelor Enterprises and International Air Leases. Founder George E. Batchelor viewed it as a restart of his earlier Arrow Airways, established in California in 1946, though the two were separate corporations. Arrow added scheduled passenger service in 1982 and developed a San Juan hub, while also operating charters and military flights. After a 1985 crash in Gander, Newfoundland, the airline filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in February 1986 but continued flying. A Federal Aviation Administration grounding in March 1995 halted operations temporarily; cargo flights resumed that June. Fine Air Services acquired Arrow in 1999, and the companies later merged following Fine Air’s 2000 bankruptcy, with operations emerging under Arrow Air Holdings in 2002. Arrow also acquired Air Global International in 2002 and completed another Chapter 11 restructuring in 2004. The cargo brand Arrow Cargo reflected the company’s growing freight focus. Scheduled operations ended in June 2010; after a buyer could not be found, the company was liquidated.
