Its origins trace to Startup Weekend Gainesville in October 2013, where Meaux and students developed a mobile ordering concept that sent customer orders directly to restaurant kitchens. The team later tested table-side ordering, pivoted to carry-out, and then expanded into delivery as demand grew. Waitr launched city by city across the South. In 2018, it was acquired through a $308 million reverse takeover by Lancadia holdings, part of Fertitta Entertainment. In January 2019, Waitr acquired Minneapolis-based Bite Squad for $321 million, substantially increasing its size. In 2021, it acquired Florida-based Delivery Dudes and three payment processing companies: ProMerchant, Flow Payments, and Cape Cod Merchant Services. The company announced a rebrand to ASAP in January 2022, alongside a shift toward non-restaurant deliveries, particularly cannabis. The name change and a $4.7 million payment were part of a trademark settlement with Waiter.com. ASAP announced it would cease operations on March 30, 2024. On April 2, Waitr Holdings declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
