This ASAP can cooler celebrates a brand tied to the rise of app-based restaurant delivery. The company started as Waitr in Lake Charles in 2013, with an idea for sending mobile orders straight to restaurant kitchens. Its service grew from carry-out into delivery and expanded across Southern cities. Later acquisitions and the January 2022 shift to the ASAP name marked a new phase, including a focus beyond restaurants. Operations ended in 2024, preserving a defined chapter for collectors of delivery history.
ASAP began in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 2013 as Waitr, Inc., founded by Chris Meaux with support from McNeese State University. Its origins trace to Startup Weekend Gainesville in October 2013, where Meaux and students developed a mobile ordering concept that sent customer orders directly to restaurant kitchens. The team later tested table-side ordering, pivoted to carry-out, and then expanded into delivery as demand grew. Waitr launched city by city across the South. In 2018, it was acquired through a $308 million reverse takeover by Lancadia holdings, part of Fertitta Entertainment. In January 2019, Waitr acquired Minneapolis-based Bite Squad for $321 million, substantially increasing its size. In 2021, it acquired Florida-based Delivery Dudes and three payment processing companies: ProMerchant, Flow Payments, and Cape Cod Merchant Services. The company announced a rebrand to ASAP in January 2022, alongside a shift toward non-restaurant deliveries, particularly cannabis. The name change and a $4.7 million payment were part of a trademark settlement with Waiter.com. ASAP announced it would cease operations on March 30, 2024. On April 2, Waitr Holdings declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
