Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate the story of Aspen Airways with a hoodie or sweatshirt inspired by a regional carrier rooted in Colorado. Founded in 1952 to carry personnel between Aspen and Denver, the airline developed from an air taxi into a scheduled service and became closely associated with Convair turboprops. In 1985, BAe 146 jets brought commercial jet service to Aspen, adding a new chapter to its mountain-route history. A meaningful choice for aviation fans, airline collectors, and anyone who remembers regional air travel.
Aspen Airways began in 1952 as the flight department of the Aspen Institute of Humanistic Studies, founded by Walter Paepcke to carry personnel between Aspen and Denver. Originally based in Aspen, Colorado, it later moved its headquarters to Hangar 5 at Stapleton International Airport in Denver. Its early aircraft included surplus Douglas DC-3s. After operating as an air taxi, the carrier received federal authority for the Aspen-Denver route in 1967. Purchased by J.W. "Bill" Ringsby in 1963, Aspen later built its service around Convair turboprops, especially the Convair 580. In the early 1980s it expanded into California, including Lake Tahoe service. In 1985, BAe 146 jets introduced commercial jet service to Aspen and opened additional routes from Denver. Aspen became a United Express affiliate in September 1986. Offered for sale in 1989, the airline was divided in 1990: Mesa Airlines acquired its Denver hub and routes other than Denver-Aspen, while Air Wisconsin Services acquired its common stock, Aspen routes, stations, ground equipment, and aircraft. Air Wisconsin operated Aspen Airways as a separate subsidiary until merging it into Air Wisconsin on April 3, 1991. The carrier ceased independent operations on April 1, 1990.
