Associated Equipment Company (AEC) Embroidered Dad Cap Hat
Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate the name behind generations of British buses, coaches and lorries with this AEC-inspired embroidered dad cap hat. Associated Equipment Company emerged from London’s bus-building tradition, expanded its production at Southall and became part of a wider story of changing transport companies. From city streets to military service, AEC vehicles earned a lasting place in enthusiast history. This is a considered everyday pick for collectors, bus fans and admirers of classic British industry.
Associated Equipment Company was a British manufacturer of buses, motorcoaches and trucks from 1912 to 1979, usually trading under the AEC name and, in some overseas markets, ACLO. Its roots lay in the London General Omnibus Company, which began building motor buses in 1909 at Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow. After the Underground Group took over LGOC in 1912, the bus manufacturing operation became AEC. During the First World War, AEC supplied large numbers of military lorries, including more than 10,000 Y-type vehicles. Production moved from Walthamstow to Southall in 1927. AEC and English Electric made trolleybuses from 1931 to 1938, and wartime output included Matador artillery tractors and other military vehicles. In 1948, AEC acquired Crossley Motors and Maudslay and established Associated Commercial Vehicles as a holding company. ACV acquired Park Royal Vehicles in 1949 and Thornycroft in 1961. Leyland Motors acquired ACV in 1962. The AEC name disappeared from commercial vehicles in 1977; production at Southall ended in 1979, when remaining vehicle production moved to other Leyland plants.
