Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate an unusual piece of airline history with an ATA Connection metal bottle opener. The name identified Chicago Express commuter service to smaller Midwestern cities, but the flights operated under Chicago Express’s certificate and used the C8 ticketing code. Its turboprop story spanned the Jetstream 31 and Saab 340 before the operation wound down and remaining assets were divested in early 2006. It is a conversation-starting keepsake for collectors interested in regional airlines and the difference between a service brand and its operator.
ATA Connection was the branded commuter service of ATA Airlines, operated by Chicago Express Airlines and serving smaller Midwestern cities. Chicago Express flew the British Aerospace Jetstream 31 turboprop before replacing it with the Saab 340. Travel agencies used the airline code C8 to ticket Chicago Express routes and arrange travel between airlines without an ATA ownership or affiliation. The ATA Connection name and branding therefore identified a regional feeder operation, while the company operated under Chicago Express’s airline certificate. The brand’s use ended as the operation wound down: its fleet was withdrawn, owned aircraft were parked, and leased aircraft were returned to their owners. Early in 2006, Chicago Express’s remaining assets were divested from the successor to AMTRAN, INC. When the company’s remnants were liquidated, it was sold as Chicago Express, the name on its original operating certificate. ATA Connection’s imagery and logos did not continue after the brand ended. ATA Airlines, a separate certificated carrier with the code TZ, ceased operations in April 2008. The article describes ATA Connection, its C8 identity, and the related certificated airline as defunct.
