GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a small reminder of coastal North Carolina rail history in view. The Atlantic and East Carolina Railway name connects Goldsboro, New Bern, and Morehead City through a route with service dating to 1858. Its later lease in 1939, passenger identity, and transition into freight history make the story especially meaningful to railway enthusiasts and regional collectors. This square porcelain fridge magnet brings that distinctive chapter of transportation history into a kitchen, office, or collection display.
The Atlantic and East Carolina Railway grew from a coastal North Carolina rail corridor first built and operated by the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad. Incorporated in 1852 and organized in 1854, the railroad constructed about 96 miles between Morehead City and Goldsboro, passing through New Bern. Service began around June 1, 1858. The line suffered major damage during the Civil War and was later rehabilitated with financing secured by a 1868 mortgage. After a lease to a predecessor of Norfolk Southern ended in 1934 following unpaid rent, the original railroad resumed operation. A newly chartered Atlantic and East Carolina Railway leased the line effective August 1, 1939, and passenger trains used its name; a daily Goldsboro–Morehead City service ended by 1951. Southern Railway acquired the lessee's stock in 1957. The Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad merged into North Carolina Railroad Company in 1989. In 1999, Atlantic and East Carolina Railway gained freight trackage rights over the former route. In 2003, the railway filed to merge into Norfolk Southern Railway, which was to be the surviving company.
