GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep Atlantic Petroleum’s place in fuel-brand history close at hand during a backyard gathering, game night, or casual get-together. Founded in Philadelphia in 1866, Atlantic grew into a major East Coast name, later joining the story of ARCO and returning as a regional brand before Sunoco consolidated its identity. Its stations, Go Patrol traffic service, and A-Plus stores connect corporate history with everyday travel. This can cooler is a distinctive conversation piece for collectors of historic American companies and roadside culture.
Founded in Philadelphia in 1866 as Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company, Atlantic entered the young oil business before becoming Atlantic Refining. John D. Rockefeller purchased it in 1874 and brought it into Standard Oil. In 1892 it absorbed Acme Oil of Pennsylvania and Standard Oil of Pennsylvania. When the Standard Oil Trust was dissolved in 1911, Atlantic received rights to the Standard name in Pennsylvania and Delaware but chose to market under Atlantic. The company expanded along the East Coast, then merged with California-based Richfield Oil in 1966 to form Atlantic Richfield Company, known as ARCO. After ARCO sold its Northeastern interests in 1985, a new owner revived Atlantic, ended the methanol gasoline program, and introduced the A-Plus convenience store brand. Sunoco acquired Atlantic in 1988 and marketed it separately for a time before consolidating the brands in 1993. Atlantic stations were gradually changed to Sunoco outlets; the last known one, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was rebranded in 1996. The Atlantic name also survives in the history of ARCO and the A-Plus chain.
