Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Atlantic Petroleum began as a Philadelphia oil company in 1866 and followed a path through Standard Oil, the formation of ARCO, and a later return to East Coast fuel retail before Sunoco consolidated the brand. Its station network and A-Plus connection make the name a distinctive part of everyday travel history. These golf balls bring Atlantic's story to the course, offering a brand-history touch for golfers, petroleum collectors, and anyone drawn to the changing names of American business.
Founded in Philadelphia in 1866 as Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company, Atlantic entered the young oil business before becoming Atlantic Refining. John D. Rockefeller purchased it in 1874 and brought it into Standard Oil. In 1892 it absorbed Acme Oil of Pennsylvania and Standard Oil of Pennsylvania. When the Standard Oil Trust was dissolved in 1911, Atlantic received rights to the Standard name in Pennsylvania and Delaware but chose to market under Atlantic. The company expanded along the East Coast, then merged with California-based Richfield Oil in 1966 to form Atlantic Richfield Company, known as ARCO. After ARCO sold its Northeastern interests in 1985, a new owner revived Atlantic, ended the methanol gasoline program, and introduced the A-Plus convenience store brand. Sunoco acquired Atlantic in 1988 and marketed it separately for a time before consolidating the brands in 1993. Atlantic stations were gradually changed to Sunoco outlets; the last known one, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was rebranded in 1996. The Atlantic name also survives in the history of ARCO and the A-Plus chain.
