GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a piece of retail history close with this Avenue Stores double-sided keychain charm. The Avenue name recalls a once-national chain with roots in 1983, when women’s apparel businesses were brought together under United Retail Group. Avenue later moved through successive ownership changes, closed its physical stores in 2019, and continued online after its e-commerce assets were acquired. For fans of store-brand nostalgia, this charm celebrates a recognizable name in the changing story of American specialty fashion.
Avenue Stores LLC was a United States specialty retailer offering plus-size clothing, shoes, and accessories for women. Its stores operated under The Avenue name, and the business also included the Loralette and Cloudwalkers brands. The company began in 1983, when Limited Brands combined Lerner Woman and Sizes Unlimited under United Retail Group, based in New Rochelle, New Jersey. United Retail Group held an initial public offering in 1992. Avenue was acquired in 2007 by Redcats USA, whose parent company was French fashion group Kerig. After United Retail Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2012, Philadelphia-based Versa Capital Management acquired the business. Mark Walsh became CEO in May 2018, succeeding Liz Williams. Avenue filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again on August 9, 2019, and planned to sell its e-commerce business while closing its physical stores. By 2019, it had operated 222 stores in 33 states; the stores closed that year, while online retail continued. In October 2019, City Chic Collective acquired the e-commerce assets. FullBeauty Brands acquired Avenue from City Chic in June 2024.
