GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a small reminder of Rochester’s shopping history close at hand with this B. Forman Square Porcelain Fridge Magnet. Founded by Benjamin Forman, the retailer grew from tailoring roots into a familiar department-store name, with a downtown flagship and a place in the history of Midtown Plaza. Its growth, ownership changes and later revival make the brand meaningful to local-history enthusiasts and collectors. A thoughtful keepsake for anyone who remembers B. Forman or enjoys regional retail stories.
Founded by Benjamin Forman, B. Forman Co. grew from a Rochester, New York, tailoring business into a major women’s clothing retailer. Forman was associated with the Vienna Tailors shop on East Main Street by 1903; the business took the B. Forman name the following year. In 1911 he opened a ready-to-wear store at 50 South Clinton Avenue, and the expanded B. Forman Co. store opened nearby on August 22, 1912. The company enlarged its downtown store in 1925, 1941 and 1951, and added suburban branches in the 1950s. In 1958, B. Forman and McCurdy & Co. announced a joint downtown shopping-center project; Midtown Plaza opened in 1962 with both stores inside. After family ownership ended, McCurdy’s bought B. Forman Co. stock in 1968, while the retailer continued as an autonomous operation. Later expansion included stores acquired from Flah’s and the Flah company. The business contracted in the early 1990s, and its stores closed in 1994. A proposed revival opened in Midtown Plaza in November 1994 but closed about fourteen months later.
