Ball Stores was a department store chain based in Muncie, Indiana, founded in November 1934. Its original downtown store occupied the former W.A. In 1968, Ball Stores acquired Collegienne Shops, a retail outlet on University Avenue near Ball State University. In 1978, the chain opened a store in Muncie Mall. By the 1980s, Ball Stores was experiencing financial difficulties. The downtown location closed in 1986, followed by Collegienne Shops in 1988. The Muncie Mall store closed in 1990, ending the chain’s listed retail operations.
