Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Celebrate a track whose name changed while its place in Illinois racing history endured. Balmoral Park began as Lincoln Fields, opened near Crete in 1926, and became Balmoral Park in 1955. Its story moved from thoroughbred racing to harness racing, then to a horse-show facility after racing ended. This cuffed beanie brings that layered local history to cool-weather routines and makes a thoughtful pick for fans, former visitors, and collectors who appreciate the many chapters of a storied sporting venue.

Balmoral Park began as Lincoln Fields, a racetrack built on land south of Crete, Illinois, after Kentucky Jockey Club associates agreed in 1925 to purchase 1,050 acres. Racing opened on August 9, 1926. The facility closed during World War II, and its meetings shifted among Hawthorne Race Course and Washington Park before racing returned to Crete in 1954. In 1955, the Balmoral Jockey Club purchased the track and its name changed to Balmoral Park. Ownership and racing arrangements changed repeatedly: Chicago Thoroughbred Enterprises later included Balmoral, and William S. Miller and partners bought it in 1967, converting the track for harness racing. The Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation acquired it in 1973 and enlarged the oval, allowing thoroughbred racing to return in 1978. Balmoral became an exclusive harness-racing facility in 1991. Racing ended in 2015 after a court ruling imposed a restitution burden on Illinois racetracks. In May 2017, HITS Inc. reopened the property as a horse-show facility. The horse-show operation later folded, and the facility was listed as permanently closed in 2022.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.

Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
