Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Bar Harbor Airlines grew from a small charter and scenic operation founded in 1943 into a commuter carrier connecting New England communities with larger airline hubs. Its story includes a base at Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport, scheduled flights beginning in 1968, a new name in 1972, and later operations as Eastern Express and Continental Express. This quarter-zip sweatshirt celebrates that layered history and the airline’s Maine roots, making it a considered choice for collectors and anyone interested in regional aviation and changing airline identities.

Founded on October 2, 1943, by brothers Thomas and Joseph Caruso as Bar Harbor Airways, the company began with charter and scenic flights from the Bar Harbor town dock. By 1950 it had established a base at Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton, Maine. Scheduled commuter service began in 1968, first linking Bar Harbor with Bangor and connecting there to Northeast Airlines flights. Direct Boston service followed, and in 1972 the carrier adopted the Bar Harbor Airlines name and expanded to five airports, including service to Quebec City via Portland and Bangor. Its network and fleet grew through the 1970s and 1980s, with aircraft ranging from Cessna and Beech models to turboprops. The airline later operated as Eastern Express and Continental Express under code-share arrangements. In 1987, Texas Air acquired a 50 percent interest and arranged the sale of Provincetown-Boston Airlines to Bar Harbor. The company moved its headquarters from Maine to Houston in 1989. After Eastern’s collapse, operations and aircraft were divided between Eastern and Continental. Bar Harbor ceased flying as Eastern Express in 1991; its northern routes continued as Continental Express, and the airline merged to form ExpressJet that year.
