Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of the fun in browsing for an unexpected bargain. Bargain Hunt grew from a Nashville closeout wholesaler into a regional store chain with changing assortments across home goods, clothing, toys, electronics, and more. Its timed markdown approach gave shoppers another reason to return and see what had changed. This coffee mug honors that familiar retail ritual and the company’s journey from its first Essex Bargain Hunt store in 2004 to the closure of all locations in March 2025.
Bargain Hunt was an American discount-store chain founded in 2004. Its parent, Essex Technology Group, began in Nashville in 2000, founded by Robert Echols and Phil Pfeffer as a wholesaler of closeout goods. The business bought excess inventory from large retailers, initially focusing on electronics and computers. Its first store opened in Nashville as Essex Bargain Hunt, alongside an online store operating from the same location. The company later developed larger-format stores, often taking over sites left by other retailers, and changed the name to Bargain Hunt. In 2015, Thomas H. Lee Partners acquired a majority stake. By 2017, the chain had more than 80 stores across 10 states. Headquartered in La Vergne, Tennessee, its stores sold a broad range of merchandise at discounted prices, with further reductions tied to how long items remained on shelves. Bargain Hunt received an Alliance Award in 2020. In early 2025, its parent warned of a possible Chapter 11 filing; Bargain Hunt then announced plans to close all 91 stores. The company filed for Chapter 11 on February 3, 2025, and all locations closed in March 2025.
