GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Set your phone on a reminder of Bernie's and its place in New England retail history. The business began in 1947 when Connecticut shop owner Bernard Rosenberg sold televisions and radios to local customers. Its Bloomfield showroom opened in 1953, and Milton Rosenberg later revived the name and expanded the chain across three states. Bernie's reached 15 stores by 2009 before closing in 2010. This foldable mobile phone display stand suits former customers and collectors who enjoy stories of family-built regional businesses.
Bernie's began in 1947, when Connecticut gas station owner Bernard Rosenberg started selling televisions and radios to local customers. As demand grew, he opened Bernie's TV and Appliance, the company’s first showroom, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, in 1953. With his son Milton and other family members, he built the business into a New England family-owned retailer of audio, video, televisions, appliances, and bedding. In 1985, the Rosenberg family sold its five stores to Newmark & Lewis. Milton left that company in 1990 and bought back the Bernie's name for $1 after Newmark & Lewis went bankrupt and closed in 1991. He rebuilt the chain from one store to ten by 1999. The company moved its headquarters and warehouse to Enfield in 2004 and had 15 stores by the end of 2009, across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. After mounting losses, Bernie's filed for bankruptcy on January 14, 2010. Liquidation sales concluded and the remaining stores closed on February 28, 2010.
