Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Bring an engaging piece of American retail history on the road. Best Products Company grew from a Richmond catalog business founded in 1957 by Sydney and Frances Lewis. Its showrooms invited shoppers to inspect display models before ordering boxed merchandise, and its unusual commissioned buildings became memorable landmarks. From the first catalog to the final store closings in 1997, Best left a story shaped by changing shopping habits and bold design. This travel mug celebrates that distinctive chapter for collectors and retail-history fans.

Best Products Company, also known as Best, was an American catalog showroom retailer founded by Sydney and Frances Lewis in 1957. The first catalog was mailed that year, and the first showroom opened at 4909 West Marshall Street in Richmond, Virginia, across from Willow Lawn Shopping Center. The company grew from the Lewises' experience in encyclopedia sales and became known for displaying merchandise for customers to examine before ordering boxed goods from store staff. In the 1970s, Best commissioned SITE to design nine unconventional retail buildings, including Richmond's Peeling Wall and Forest showrooms and a distinctive Houston facade. Its Parham Road headquarters, completed in 1981, received an American Institute of Architects award. In 1982, Best acquired Basco and Modern Merchandising, whose showroom names included LaBelle's, Dolgin's, Jafco, Miller Sales, Rogers and Great Western; it also acquired Ashby's and opened jewelry stores. Best filed for Chapter 11 protection in 1991 and again in 1996. It operated 169 Best stores and 11 jewelry stores in 23 states at the second filing. The final stores closed in February 1997, and the company vacated its Richmond headquarters in January 1998.
