GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Celebrate a familiar name from Southeastern grocery history with these BI-LO Golf Balls. Founded in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1961 as Wrenn & Outlaw, the chain adopted the BI-LO name in 1963 after a staff naming contest. Its Hereford bull symbol became a recognizable feature outside stores as the company expanded through the region. The BI-LO banner was phased out by 2021, and these golf balls offer collectors and former shoppers a distinctive way to remember its six decades of stores and changing identities.
BI-LO began in 1961 when former Winn-Dixie executive Frank Outlaw bought four grocery stores in Greenville, South Carolina, from Wrenn and Syracuse and formed the Wrenn & Outlaw chain. The company adopted the BI-LO name in 1963 after a staff naming contest; its Hereford bull symbol became a familiar feature outside stores. Ahold, a Dutch retail food company, purchased BI-LO in 1977. The chain expanded through acquisitions, including 21 Kroger stores in North and South Carolina in 1988 and Red Food Stores in 1994, whose 55 locations joined BI-LO the following year. Ahold sold BI-LO and Bruno’s to Lone Star Funds in 2005. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009, BI-LO emerged in 2010 and merged with Winn-Dixie in 2011. Southeastern Grocers became the parent company for BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie in 2013. Following a further bankruptcy restructuring in 2018, Southeastern Grocers announced in 2020 that it would phase out the BI-LO banner. Stores were sold to other operators or closed, and the remaining locations closed by April 18, 2021, ending the banner’s 60-year run.
