Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give your desk a touch of New England railroad history with this foldable mobile phone display stand honoring the Boston and Maine Railroad. Created through a 1842 merger, B&M expanded by connecting routes and acquiring or leasing other railroads, serving communities from Boston toward Maine and across northern New England. The company’s trains carried passengers and freight through changing eras of travel. For railroad collectors, history readers, or anyone who enjoys the region’s transportation story, this stand keeps the B&M legacy in view during everyday moments.
The Boston and Maine Railroad was chartered in New Hampshire in 1835, building on earlier plans for a route from Boston through northern Massachusetts and New Hampshire toward Maine. Its predecessors included the Andover and Wilmington Railroad, incorporated in 1833, and the Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Railroad, incorporated in 1839. In 1842, these companies combined with the Boston and Portland to form a new Boston and Maine Railroad. The line reached South Berwick, Maine, in 1843, and a new route toward Portland opened in 1873. Through leases and acquisitions, B&M expanded across New England, including the Eastern Railroad, Boston and Lowell Railroad, Connecticut River Railroad and Fitchburg Railroad. The railroad served mill towns and operated passenger and freight trains, but faced declining passenger traffic and financial strain. It filed for bankruptcy in 1970 and emerged in 1983 under Guilford Transportation Industries. Guilford became Pan Am Railways in 2006; CSX acquired Pan Am Railways in 2022. B&M commuter operations continued under contract until 1987, while the MBTA took ownership of commuter equipment and much Boston-area track in 1976.
