McDonald’s purchased the chain in May 2000, primarily for its real estate holdings, and continued operating it. McDonald’s sold Boston Market to Sun Capital Partners in August 2007. In April 2020, Sun Capital sold it to Engage Brands, LLC, a company of Rohan Group. The chain later faced lawsuits, store closures, and further bankruptcy proceedings. It had about 300 locations at the start of 2023, fewer than 30 by early 2024, and 16 remaining at the end of 2024. Frozen meals and side dishes continued to be sold under the brand in supermarkets.
