GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Add a touch of Wisconsin retail history to your next golf outing with Boston Store golf balls. The Milwaukee-based department store expanded across Wisconsin, became part of several regional retail groups, and saw its stores close in 2018 before the name returned online that October. For collectors and former shoppers, Boston Store recalls familiar local shopping trips and the changing banners behind them. These golf balls make that distinctive regional story part of a round with friends or a thoughtful keepsake for a Wisconsin retail-history enthusiast.
Boston Store was a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based department store whose history included changing owners, regional expansion, and several corporate restructurings. Philip Irving Stone ran the business through the 1920s and 1930s. In December 1933, 600 of its 1,000 employees took part in a white-collar union strike. Julian Simon’s control was sold to Federated Department Stores in 1948, which opened branches in Wisconsin cities including Oshkosh, Sheboygan, and Manitowoc. Bergner’s acquired the business in 1985 and moved its headquarters to Milwaukee. In 1986, Boston Store acquired three former Gimbel’s branches in Milwaukee, Madison, and Wauwatosa. Bergner’s later added Carson Pirie Scott and Donaldson’s, operating stores under several regional names. After Bergner’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1991, the organization emerged in 1993 as Carson Pirie Scott & Co. Proffitt’s acquired it in 1998. Bon-Ton Stores completed its purchase of Boston Store and other Northern department store banners on March 6, 2006; some Milwaukee-area Younkers stores were rebranded Boston Store. Bon-Ton’s stores closed in 2018 after liquidators won an auction. In October 2018, Boston Store returned as an online retailer under an agreement allowing CSC Generation Holdings to use Bon-Ton and subsidiary rights.
