The chain later expanded in the Pittsburgh and Youngstown areas. In November 2014, Delhaize announced a sale of Bottom Dollar to Aldi and plans to close the stores. They shut on January 12, 2015, ahead of schedule after selling through inventory. Delhaize finalized the sale of the closed locations to Aldi on March 27, 2015. Aldi planned to reopen 30 as its own stores, while other locations were flipped or sublet.
