Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate a distinctive chapter in American airline history with this Bowen Air Lines embroidered dad cap hat. From its Fort Worth beginnings in 1930, Bowen carried passengers and express packages along a route linking Chicago and Brownsville. The airline started with five Lockheed Vega aircraft and later expanded its fleet, flying more than four million miles before ceasing operations in 1936. Its brief run and connections to the growth of commercial air service make this an appealing piece for aviation history fans and collectors.
Bowen Air Lines was founded by Temple Bowen in Fort Worth, Texas, and began operations on 1 September 1930. It carried passengers and express packages to selected destinations between Chicago, Illinois, and Brownsville, Texas. The airline began with five Lockheed Vega aircraft and later added a Lockheed Sirius, two Lockheed Model 9 Orion aircraft, including the prototype, and two Vultee V-1 aircraft. Over its years of operation, Bowen Air Lines flew more than 4,000,000 miles and carried 45,000 passengers. The company ceased operations on 15 February 1936 after it was unable to obtain an airmail contract from the United States Post Office Department. Most of its assets were purchased by Braniff Airways; the Vultee aircraft were sold to American Airlines. Bowen Air Lines thus links early Texas aviation, the development of commercial passenger and express service, and the later transfer of aircraft and other assets to established carriers.
