GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Wear a nod to Bowman Gum Company, the Philadelphia business founded in 1927 as Gum, Inc. Its early success with Blony bubble gum grew into a lasting connection with trading cards, including Play Ball baseball sets and a popular return to sports cards in 1948. The Bowman name continued through a 1989 revival and later releases that appealed to rookie-card collectors. This polo shirt suits fans who appreciate the company’s distinctive place in sports collectibles history.
Founded in Philadelphia in 1927 by gum salesman Jacob Warren Bowman as Gum, Inc., the company first built its business around Blony bubble gum. Blony became a leading penny gum in the United States, and by 1937 Gum, Inc. occupied a building on Woodland Avenue. Trading cards accompanied its gum, first on non-sports subjects and then in sports sets. Bowman issued Play Ball baseball cards from 1939 to 1941, paused card production during wartime paper rationing, and returned with cards under the Bowman name in 1948. That year it released popular baseball cards as well as its first football and basketball sets. After rival Leaf left the market in 1950, Bowman competed directly with Topps for players and card contracts. Topps acquired Bowman in 1956 for $200,000, and the original brand was discontinued. Topps revived the Bowman name in 1989 for sports card sets. Later products included Bowman Chrome, introduced in 1997, and Bowman Sterling, introduced in 2004. The brand is now owned by Topps and is known for cards featuring rookie players.
