Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Remember a distinctive chapter of railroad history with the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway. Its routes connected western Pennsylvania coalfields to Buffalo, Rochester, and smaller communities, carrying freight while also serving passenger travelers. From the railroad's emergence in 1885 through its absorption in 1932, the BR&P story reflects expansion, reorganization, and the infrastructure behind regional commerce. This ceramic ornament is a meaningful keepsake for railroad enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone who values the history of New York and Pennsylvania rail connections.

The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway grew from repeated efforts to create a dependable route for western Pennsylvania coal to Buffalo, Rochester, and smaller communities. The Rochester and Pittsburgh Railroad was formed on 29 January 1881 from the remains of the Rochester and State Line Railroad, and expanded into Pennsylvania coal country. Construction companies built new lines and branches before being folded into the railroad. Expansion strained its finances, and it went bankrupt in May 1885. Adrian Iselin bought its remaining assets on 16 October 1885, and that October the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway emerged as its successor. The railway connected coalfields with markets through a network extending from Lake Ontario into western Pennsylvania. It built a coal dock at the mouth of the Genesee River, expanded in 1909 and 1913, and began a cross-lake service to Cobourg with the Grand Trunk Railway in 1907. Freight, especially coal, was its principal business, though it also ran passenger trains between Rochester and Pittsburgh. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ended its Buffalo–Pittsburgh passenger service on 15 October 1955. The railway itself ended in 1932, when it was absorbed by the Baltimore and Ohio.
