Cedar Fair, L.P., branded as Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, was an American amusement park operator headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio, with significant administrative offices in Charlotte, North Carolina. Its roots trace to Cedar Point, which began as a bathing beach resort in the 1870s. Cedar Fair Limited Partnership formed in 1983 after Cedar Point acquired Valleyfair; its name combined the names of those parks. The company went public on April 29, 1987, and expanded through acquisitions including Dorney Park in 1992, Worlds of Fun in 1995, and Knott’s Berry Farm in 1997. In 2006, it acquired Paramount Parks from CBS Corporation and adopted Cedar Fair Entertainment Company as its business name, while retaining Cedar Fair LP as its legal name. The company later acquired Michigan’s Adventure, water parks, and other properties. In November 2023, Cedar Fair and Six Flags announced a merger. Completed July 1, 2024, the transaction dissolved both companies and formed Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Former Cedar Fair stockholders received a 51.2 percent majority stake, and the new company kept Cedar Fair’s FUN ticker. At dissolution, Cedar Fair had 11 amusement parks and four separately gated water parks.
