Add a railway-history touch to notes, lists, and reminders with this Chicago Great Western sticky note pad. The Corn Belt Route linked Midwestern communities and built its identity through hubs such as Oelwein, Iowa. Its story ranges from construction toward Dubuque to freight experiments and the 1968 merger, giving collectors plenty to remember beyond the name. A practical desk companion for rail enthusiasts, local history readers, and anyone who enjoys keeping a distinctive railroad close at hand.

Founded by Alpheus Beede Stickney in 1885 as the Minnesota and Northwestern Railroad, the Chicago Great Western began as a regional line between St. Paul and the Iowa state line. Its predecessor, the Minnesota and North Western, started building south from St. Paul toward Dubuque in 1884. The Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City Railroad acquired it in 1887, then extended its reach to Omaha, St. Joseph, and Chicago. Reorganized as the Chicago Great Western in 1892, the carrier linked Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, and Kansas City across the Midwest. Oelwein, Iowa, became its headquarters and principal shop site; construction there was completed in 1899. Known as the Corn Belt Route, it developed a reputation for operational innovation, including early self-propelled railcars and trailer-on-flatcar freight service. It converted fully to diesel power by 1950. Passenger service ended on September 30, 1965. After a proposed merger was contested for four years, the railway joined the Chicago and North Western Railway on July 1, 1968. The successor abandoned most former Great Western track. Some former rights of way later became trails bearing the Great Western name.

Keep a stack by the phone for action items, stash a pad in your planner for weekly priorities, or place one on a conference table where everyone can jot a quick note. The adhesive holds through handling but releases cleanly when you move items around. For people who prefer minimal branding and maximum writing space, these pads help keep thoughts visible and tasks moving forward without shouting for attention.
