Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
The Chicago, Missouri and Western Railway left a concise, compelling story on the Midwestern freight map. Operating from 1987 to 1989, CM&W connected familiar corridors with a fast-moving period of corporate change, bankruptcy, and piecemeal route sales. Its CMNW reporting mark and links among Chicago, Springfield, Roodhouse, St. Louis, and Kansas City make this design a natural fit for railroad-history collectors. Wear it to a rail museum, while following freight routes, or as a daily nod to a carrier that quickly became a conversation piece.
The Chicago, Missouri and Western Railway (CM&W), reporting mark CMNW, was a Class II railroad operating in the American Midwest from 1987 to 1989. Its routes had earlier been built and operated by the Chicago and Alton Railroad, including lines connecting Chicago and Springfield, Springfield with Roodhouse and St. Louis, and Roodhouse with Kansas City and St. Louis. The Chicago and Alton became part of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad in 1947; that railroad merged into the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1972. As Illinois Central Gulf spun off redundant routes, CM&W purchased lines from it on April 28, 1987. The railway struggled financially, deferred track maintenance, and entered bankruptcy within a year. Its lines were sold piecemeal in 1989. The Chicago-to-St. Louis route went to Southern Pacific Transportation Company at bankruptcy sale and later became part of Union Pacific following its purchase. Gateway Western Railway acquired the Kansas City-to-St. Louis route and the Roodhouse-to-Springfield segment; Gateway Western eventually came under Kansas City Southern control. CM&W was owned by Venango River, which used South Shore revenues for a time to support CM&W debt.
