Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad Cuffed Beanie
Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate the North Shore Line’s electric railway story with this Cuffed Beanie, a useful pick for cool-weather outings and rail gatherings. The line connected Chicago-area communities with Milwaukee, adding a faster Skokie Valley route in 1926 and introducing streamlined Electroliners in 1941. Its history spans local street railway beginnings, interurban travel, and urban transit connections. Made for admirers of the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad and the journeys it made possible.
The Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad, known as the North Shore Line, grew from the Bluff City Electric Street Railway, which began operating in Waukegan in May 1895. The Chicago and Milwaukee Electric Railroad acquired it in May 1898, and through service reached Evanston in 1899. The line extended north to Milwaukee by 1908. After the North Shore Line took over operations in 1916, it gained direct access to Chicago’s elevated railway and the Loop in 1919. Its Skokie Valley route opened in 1926, creating a faster Chicago–Milwaukee path and local service to Mundelein. The railroad developed streamlined Electroliner trains, introduced in 1941, and operated passenger, freight, streetcar, bus and motor-coach services. A new corporation assumed the property in 1946 after reorganization. Passenger service on the Shore Line ended in 1955; all rail service ended in January 1963. The Electroliners were sold to a Philadelphia-area transit company and later ran under the name Liberty Liners. Since 1964, Chicago Transit Authority rapid transit has used part of the former route between Chicago and Skokie.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
