In June 2009, Coda and Lishen Power Battery announced LIO Energy Systems, a battery joint venture later renamed Coda Energy. Coda filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 1, 2013, after selling about 100 cars, and said it would leave car manufacturing to focus on Coda Energy. In 2014, the owner of Mullen Motor Cars incorporated the bankrupt company into a new electric-vehicle enterprise, Mullen Technologies. Exergonix acquired Coda's remaining assets by May 2016.
