Coda designed and assembled lithium-iron-phosphate battery systems for vehicles and power storage, while its sole car was the all-electric, four-door Coda sedan. The sedan went on sale in California in March 2012, with an EPA-rated range of 88 miles. In June 2009, Coda and Lishen Power Battery announced LIO Energy Systems, a battery joint venture later renamed Coda Energy. Coda filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 1, 2013, after selling about 100 cars, and said it would leave car manufacturing to focus on Coda Energy. In 2014, the owner of Mullen Motor Cars incorporated the bankrupt company into a new electric-vehicle enterprise, Mullen Technologies. Exergonix acquired Coda's remaining assets by May 2016. The name CODA refers to a musical concluding passage; the company framed it as a transition from combustion engines toward electric vehicles.
