GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of the computer-shopping era CompUSA helped define. This ceramic coffee mug honors the business that began as Soft Warehouse in Addison, Texas, then grew into a national source for PCs, electronics, services, and upgrades. From its first superstore and Atlanta megastore to CompUSA.com and Apple store-within-a-store departments, the story is packed with personal-computer history. A warm desk companion for collectors, coders, former employees, and longtime customers.
CompUSA began as Soft Warehouse, founded in 1984 in Addison, Texas, by Errol Jacobson and Mike Henochowicz. Its first superstore opened on Marsh Lane and Belt Line Road in 1986, and national expansion began with an Atlanta megastore in 1988. Renamed CompUSA in 1991, the company became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and developed into a nationwide big-box retailer of computers, electronics, technology products, and services. It launched CompUSA.com retail sales in 1996, partnered with Apple Computer on in-store Macintosh departments in 1997, and acquired Tandy's Computer City in 1998. CompUSA acquired Good Guys in 2003 and later used the "CompUSA with Good Guys Inside" name in California and Hawaii. Store closures began in 2006. Specialty Equity acquired the company in December 2007, and Systemax purchased the brand, e-commerce business, technical services, and 16 locations in January 2008. In 2012, Systemax consolidated CompUSA and Circuit City storefronts under TigerDirect.
