Delia's, Inc., stylized as dELiA*s, launched in 1993 through two Yale University graduates as an apparel and accessories lifestyle brand aimed primarily at girls and young women. It became a major U.S. direct marketer and independent retailer, using catalogs, websites, and mall-based specialty stores to reach Gen Y customers. Its assortment included clothing, footwear, cosmetics, accessories, and room furnishings. In December 1997, Delia's acquired Gurl.com, later placing it within its iTurf online subsidiary. Alloy Inc. acquired Delia's in 2003 for $50 million; the combined business reported $300 million in annual catalog, internet, and retail sales. Alloy spun Delia's off in 2005. After a 2014 Chapter 11 filing and the announced liquidation of 95 stores, Steve Russo of Fab/Starpoint acquired the brand for $2.5 million. An online-only reopening in August 2015 was unsuccessful. Dolls Kill later licensed the name and relaunched Delia's as a sub-brand in November 2018, with online sales and pop-ups in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
