Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Give a desk or meeting accessory a distinctive Michigan history connection with this Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad metal business card holder. Organized in 1876, the DL&N built on earlier railroads and connected Detroit and Lansing with communities farther west. Its branches and changing corporate identity offer a compelling glimpse of regional railroad history. A considered choice for rail enthusiasts, collectors and anyone who enjoys a subtle reminder of the companies that shaped Michigan transportation.

The Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad (DL&N) was organized on December 27, 1876, after foreclosure and reorganization of the Detroit, Lansing and Lake Michigan Rail Road. That predecessor had been incorporated in 1871 through the consolidation of the Detroit, Howell and Lansing Railroad and the Ionia and Lansing Railroad; the Ionia, Stanton and Northern Rail Road joined it in 1872. The DL&N began with 206 miles of inherited track, including a main line linking Detroit, Lansing, Ionia, Greenville and Howard City. Its branches reached Stanton and, by 1880, Big Rapids. In 1882 it acquired a perpetual lease to the assets of the Saginaw & Western Railroad, and in 1888 leased new routes from Grand Ledge to Grand Rapids and to Reeds Lake. Lumber and forest products dominated freight traffic during much of its operation. The railroad entered receivership on April 1, 1896, and was reorganized as the Detroit, Grand Rapids and Western Railroad on January 1, 1897. That company consolidated several other railroads and became part of the Pere Marquette Railway on December 7, 1899. The Detroit-to-Lansing segment later became part of the Pere Marquette Railroad, organized in 1900, and remains in use by CSX.
