Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad Cuffed Beanie
Product Details & Size Guide
The Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad Cuffed Beanie offers a wearable nod to a railroad with deep ties to Michigan and Ohio. Formed through a 1901 merger and reorganized under a new name in 1905, the DT&I later became part of Henry Ford’s plans for a stronger connection between Dearborn and major east-west rail lines. Its changing fortunes and lasting regional associations make this a thoughtful pick for rail fans, collectors and admirers of American transportation history.
The Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad traced its origins to the 1901 merger of the Detroit and Lima Northern Railway and the Ohio Southern Railway, which formed the Detroit Southern Railroad. Purchased at foreclosure in 1905, it was reorganized as the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railway; the name changed to Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad in 1914. The company went bankrupt in 1908 and was purchased by Henry Ford in 1920. Ford valued its connection from Dearborn, Michigan, to major east-west rail lines and invested in track, equipment and electrification near Detroit. He sold it in 1929 to a Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary. The DT&I remained an independent subsidiary until 1970, despite its parent’s 1968 merger with the New York Central to form Penn Central. Private investors bought the railroad after Penn Central’s bankruptcy. The Grand Trunk Western acquired it in 1980, and in December 1983 the DT&I was fully assimilated into the GTW. Service on southern portions ended in stages, while parts of the northern and central routes later passed to the Indiana and Ohio Railway. The railroad connected Detroit, Toledo and Ironton, with other listed communities along its route in Michigan and Ohio.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
