Dey Brothers was a department store business centered in Syracuse, New York, founded by Scottish immigrants Price and McCarthy Dey. After settling in Syracuse in 1883, they opened their first store at 205 South Salina Street. By 1936, the chain had grown to 34 locations and reported annual sales of between $2,000,000 and $2,500,000. That year, Allied Stores acquired the business. Dey's, as part of Allied Stores Co., was purchased by Campeau Corp. in 1986 and sold in 1987 to May Company, whose parent company also owned Sibley's, a Dey's rival. The Addis Company later acquired the business and changed its name to Addis & Dey's. In 1991, it merged with Sage-Allen stores to form Sage-Dey. The downtown Syracuse store closed in 1992, and all stores closed in 1993. The sequence of names and corporate changes traces the business from its local beginnings to its eventual closure.
