GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a nod to Discovery Airways and its unusual place in Hawaii aviation history. The Honolulu-based airline began service on March 25, 1990, flying BAe 146 aircraft on inter-island routes planned to include Kahului, Lihue, and Kona. Although the operation ended that July, its brief timeline remains a point of interest for regional-carrier enthusiasts. This coffee mug makes a considered choice for daily routines, a home collection, or a gift for someone who enjoys airline heritage.
Discovery Airways was formed in 1989 by Franco Mancassola, a former Continental Airlines manager and Mid Pacific Air marketing director. The Hawaii-based airline planned inter-island flights from Honolulu to Kahului, Lihue, and Kona. Before service began, Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and their unions asked the United States Department of Transportation to investigate the airline’s ownership. The department issued a nine-month provisional certificate so Discovery could demonstrate control by American interests. Flights began on March 25, 1990, using BAe 146 aircraft. The airline was accused of failing to meet the citizenship requirement and, on July 6, was ordered to stop operating within a week. It shut down on July 13, 1990. An attempt to sell chairman Phillip Ho’s interest was judged insufficient; Discovery was sold later that year to K P Harvest. After that company went bankrupt, Discovery filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in August 1991. Its five aircraft were later leased to Business Express Airlines. Mancassola went on to establish Debonair in the United Kingdom in 1996, using the BAe 146 and aircraft livery and logo also associated with Discovery.
