Elite Airways LLC was founded in 2006 and received FAA Part 121 scheduled certification in 2012. Based in Portland, Maine, it began scheduled passenger service in 2014, first linking Melbourne Orlando International Airport with Washington Dulles. Its route network grew to include communities in Florida, Maine, New York, Colorado, Illinois, and other states, as well as South Bimini in The Bahamas, its first international destination in 2017. From 2017 to 2018, the airline operated under the Cal Jet Elite name on California–Nevada flights, a venture it later ceased. In 2018 it refocused scheduled flying on Newark and Portland routes to Florida. Elite opened a maintenance facility in Auburn, Maine, in 2019 and that year signed an agreement to supply aircraft, crews, and maintenance for a planned revival of the Midwest Express brand; that agreement ended in 2022 amid litigation. The airline expanded at Westchester County Airport in 2021, adding island destinations and Florida and Maine routes. Elite suspended scheduled and charter flights in July 2022. In October 2023, reports said the U.S. Department of Transportation had revoked its operating authority.
