GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Put a piece of retail history on display with a Fallas-inspired vanity license plate. Joseph Fallas opened the first Fallas Paredes store in downtown Los Angeles in 1962, beginning a family-owned story that later included Fallas Discount Stores and other names. The company’s changing locations, acquisitions and eventual 2022 closures reflect a wider chapter in discount department store history. This plate is a conversation starter for former shoppers and collectors who remember the stores and the communities they served.
National Stores began in 1962 when Joseph Fallas opened a single downtown Los Angeles store called Fallas Paredes. The family-owned retailer later operated under names including Fallas, Fallas Discount Stores, Factory 2-U and Conway, selling clothing, shoes, lingerie and household goods. Fallas Paredes served the Hispanic American community. In 2001, National Stores acquired 31 Houston-area locations from Weiner's during that chain's liquidation. After Factory 2-U filed for bankruptcy protection in February 2004, National Stores arranged to acquire 172 stores; the chain liquidated later that year. National Stores acquired Conway in January 2014 and, in August 2015, took over leases for 41 Anna's Linens stores, with some locations adopting the Anna's Linens by Fallas name. The company moved its regional distribution operation from Otay Mesa to Perris, California, in 2016. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August 2018 and expanded liquidation sales that October. Further Fallas Paredes closures began in early 2022. On August 31, 2022, National Stores closed its remaining locations in Puerto Rico and the contiguous United States.
