GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start a coffee break with a reminder of Southern California's supermarket past. This Fazio's Shopping Bag ceramic coffee mug connects an everyday ritual with a brand that began as a single Los Angeles grocery store in 1930. Its path included a 1972 rebranding by Fisher Foods and the end of its independent identity after a 1978 sale to Albertsons. Whether it sits at home or at work, the mug offers collectors and former shoppers a simple way to remember a distinctive chapter in local retail history.
Shopping Bag Food Stores began in 1930 as a single grocery store on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The company opened its first supermarket in 1933 and went public in 1954. In January 1960, Shopping Bag, then operating 38 stores, announced a merger with Vons, which had 28 stores. The combined chain would have been the second largest supermarket chain on the West Coast. The Federal Trade Commission challenged the merger. After two lower court victories for Vons, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed those decisions in 1966 and ordered divestiture. In June 1967, Vons completed the sale of Shopping Bag Food Stores to E.F. MacDonald. MacDonald later acquired 31 A&P supermarkets in Los Angeles and converted them to the Shopping Bag name. In 1972, MacDonald sold the chain to Fisher Foods, which rebranded the stores as Fazio's Shopping Bag. In 1978, all stores were sold to Albertsons, ending the chain's independent brand history.
